Identity verification for travelers
Identity verification is separate from signing in, verifying an email address or phone number, and editing your PTOspace profile. The account’s Government ID task is available when the account does not have a completed identity status.
Start identity verification
Section titled “Start identity verification”You can open the flow from either of these released entry points:
- Sign in and open Profile → Edit profile.
- In Verification, select Government ID when the task is Not verified. You can also open Complete your account (or Continue verification), select Verify your identity, and choose Start verification.
The verification flow then asks you to:
- Choose Driver’s license, Passport, or State ID.
- Select the Issuing country or region.
- Capture or choose an image of the front of the selected document.
- Capture or choose a selfie.
- Select Submit.
The app uploads the selected images to PTOspace and submits an authenticated identity-verification request. It then shows Identity submitted and a review message. The screen currently displays Estimated review time — A few minutes. This is interface copy, not a response-time or approval guarantee.
The released source does not name an external identity provider or show a separate provider handoff. If the app presents different instructions for your account, follow the current in-app instructions.
Never send identity documents, passwords, or one-time codes to a host or traveler through chat.
Identity statuses
Section titled “Identity statuses”The released account and request flow uses these user-facing states:
- Not verified — no identity value is present. The Government ID task can open the verification flow.
- Pending — a request has been submitted and is under review. The submit result is shown as Identity submitted. Do not submit another request while a request is pending.
- Verified — the identity requirement is satisfied and the public Verified badge can be shown.
The review flow also has a Reject outcome. In the current admin flow, rejection removes the submitted request and its uploaded images, clears the profile identity value, and sends the user a message to review the document and selfie and try again. The app does not expose a separate Rejected, Failed, or Requires action screen in the inspected traveler flow; after the profile value is cleared, the account is again Not verified.
Retry and removal
Section titled “Retry and removal”Do not start another submission while the account is Pending. After a rejected request has been cleared, Government ID is available again from the account verification flow, so you can start a new submission. A completed Verified identity can also be removed from Profile → Edit profile; removing it clears the identity value and requires a new verification if you need to become verified again.
The Verified badge
Section titled “The Verified badge”The public badge label is Verified. It is shown only when the identity profile value is canonical verified or the migration-compatible legacy value approved. The legacy value is normalized for eligibility and is not shown to users as “Approved.” Pending, missing, rejected, or other values do not qualify for the badge.
In the released Flutter surfaces, the badge appears:
- on a public profile header, as a green verified icon on the avatar and the Verified label below it; and
- on a property details Host card, inline next to the Host name.
Host booking requests can also show a compact Verified, Identity not verified, or Verification unavailable traveler indicator. These indicators describe identity status; they do not add a new verification requirement.
When verification affects booking
Section titled “When verification affects booking”The approved booking contract does not require identity verification to browse, view a property, message, or contact a host. It does require:
- a verified Traveler before Request to book;
- a verified Traveler before Reserve; and
- a verified Host before accepting or approving a booking request.
Pending, rejected, incomplete, or requires-action identity states do not pass those booking gates. The server is authoritative for these checks.
Privacy
Section titled “Privacy”The verification screen includes a privacy notice. PTOspace’s Privacy Policy is the authoritative source for information handling, sharing, retention, choices, and security; this article does not add separate retention, deletion, encryption, or sharing promises.
